If
Naples is one of Italy's best travel destinations this is surely thanks in part to its Mediterranean
climate. After all, it's always sunny here. Or rather, almost always. It is therefore crucial to choose the
right time of year to visit the city, however choosing to visit Naples is never wrong. It is a salve to the soul that should be experienced periodically such is the beauty that surrounds the city in every space.
Let us address together the weather chapter in Naples, which then connects to the difference between high season and low season that is evident in the city. At the end of these lines you will be perfectly independent in recognizing what is the best time of year to visit the city. In addition, we remind you of the incredible benefits of the Naples Pass, a key tool with discounts for the city's main attractions.
What months are best to go to Naples?
Let's start at the end by immediately answering the question everyone is asking: what are
the best months to visit Naples? The answer is none. Let us elaborate. There is not actually one period that actually overpowers the others. More than anything else, the goals of the trip change with the seasons, the background of the painting changes. If we were to pull up a balance, the seasons when the city is most enjoyable are probably
spring and
fall. Specifically the end of the former and the beginning of the second, so April, May, September and October.
The main reason lies in the opportunity to take advantage of almost always mild weather, with temperatures ranging between 15° and 25°, even with peaks of 27°-28°. Pleasant sunshine, ideal for long walks through the city's nooks and crannies, through the alleys of the center and the unmissable Mergellina waterfront. In addition, the state of tourist affluence is not at the level of summer, so there is less chaos and easier queues at the main attractions.
Spring and autumn are also the best seasons to discover Vesuvius with a magnificent hike, given the ideal temperatures. Alternatively, we recommend a dip into the history and eternal charm of the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, rare gems of the Neapolitan soil.
What is the peak season in Naples?
The
peak season in Naples coincides with the
summer period, so from the end of May to the beginning of September. These are the hottest months of the year for the city, in every sense. Temperatures boil over, easily and steadily exceeding
30° throughout the summer from the early morning light. Summer is the busiest time for tourists, with tourists from all over the world choosing Naples to take refuge in the sun and the hot, hot atmosphere of the city.
While on the one hand, however, there are tourists arriving in droves, on the other we find Neapolitans leaving. In fact, particularly in August, we witness every year the exodus of citizens who empty the city to head to their respective vacation destinations. So we are talking about the time of year when one would discover Naples in its less authentic version, but this does not detract from the fact that the amount of attractions and things to do remains the same, if not increased.
In summer, all activities move outdoors, with many festivals, concerts and parties that are absolutely not to be missed. In addition, there is no Naples without the sea, so the islands of the Gulf should definitely be discovered, perhaps with a boat tour to avoid crowded beaches. Alternatively, to experience the sea as a true Neapolitan, we recommend the village of Marechiaro in Posillipo.
The hidden advantages of the low season in Naples
The neapolitan climate is a mediterranean type, which gives to the city appreciable temperatures the whole year and it avoids the presence of rainy season in Naples. The rainiest average months are certainly November and December, especially the former, the month from which, moreover, the Neapolitan low season begins. This period of tourist downturn ends in March, with December as an interval, as Naples has also become a Christmas destination thanks mainly to the traditions of San Gregorio Armeno.
The low season is a very attractive opportunity, a rewarding time to visit the city in peace. There is no competition from other tourists, the museums are empty, and it is possible to breathe the Neapolitan way of life in its true essence on a daily basis. Add to that the economic side, as accommodations cost considerably less, and you're done.
That being said, at this time of year we especially suggest experiences such as the National Archaeological Museum, the city's landmark museum. Staying on the art theme, don't miss the Museum of the Treasure of San Gennaro, a fascinating collection that only in Naples could you find. Both attractions are featured in the Naples Pass.
A city to experience all seasons of the year
We have emphasized it many times, we reiterate it now: thanks to its climate,
Naples is worth seeing and seeing again
all year round. It has no period or season, high or low. Its charm and beauty are firm in time, they do not let themselves be touched from the outside and remain immanent, impenetrable. So, we particularly recommend
spring and
fall, but choosing to spend the summer with a view of Vesuvius is also a wonderful idea.
Why not, even the Christmas vacations with the unfailing tour of the historic center through markets, characteristic objects and the historic nativity scenes of San Gregorio Armeno. All clearly seasoned with food, lots of food with an all-Neapolitan flavor that reaches the palate and ends up in the heart. Easter? Easter too, indeed, perhaps especially the Easter vacations. In short, you just have to plan your vacation in Naples and enjoy all that the city has to offer, never asking for anything as a gift.
